VIDYA NIKETAN (VN): An Introduction

Vidya Niketan (VN) came into existence on 13th December 2006 with the aim for holistic development of rural children / adolescents, women and marginalized section of the society. In order to provide free and quality education to rural children, school from class 8 -10 was being run with the support of members of the organization and likeminded people. The school was operational since 2007 and average student strength of the school was 180. Since majority of the students were from ST and SC community, hence free education has been provided to all.

Apart from education and livelihood programs, VN have been addressing the health, hygiene, WASH issues in the rural communities. In addition to that VN is also organizing health check-up camps, eye testing camp followed by referral to higher facilities for further treatment, generating awareness on TB, family planning (FP), HIV/AIDS, adoption of recommended health & nutrition practices.

VN’s initiatives include social inclusion and linking them with the social security schemes for urban slums and rural communities by empowering the SHGs for improving their lives. The adolescents are engaged through various life skill approaches thereby addressing education and child rights. Plantation and environment sensitive initiatives are part of climate action strategies of VN.
